A hot, dry, dusty easterly or southeasterly wind that blows from the Atlantic coast of Morocco out over Madeira and the Canary Islands. It is a form of sirocco, carries fine Saharan dust that cuts visibility, and occurs ahead of depressions advancing eastward. The Iberian counterpart is the leveche, which blows across southeastern Spain.
