Lifetimes

The characteristic time scale over which a substance or atmospheric constituent persists in the atmosphere before being removed by chemical reactions, deposition, or transport. It is a measure of how long a pollutant or greenhouse gas remains active in the atmosphere. Lifetimes can range from minutes for highly reactive species to centuries for stable gases like carbon dioxide.
