Light pillar

A atmospheric optical phenomenon consisting of a vertical column of light appearing to extend above or below a light source, such as the sun, moon, or artificial lights. It is caused by the reflection of light off numerous tiny ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. These crystals are typically plate-shaped and horizontally oriented.
