Subsun

A bright spot of light appearing directly below the sun, formed by the reflection of sunlight off numerous tiny ice crystals in the atmosphere. This optical phenomenon is a type of halo, often observed from aircraft flying above a layer of ice crystals or from high mountain tops. The ice crystals must be plate-shaped and oriented horizontally for the subsun to be visible.
