Circumzenithal arc
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004313
An optical phenomenon appearing as a brightly colored, arc-shaped halo located directly above the observer, centered on the zenith. It forms when sunlight refracts through plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus clouds, similar to a circumhorizontal arc. This arc is often more vivid than a rainbow and requires the sun to be at an elevation between 0 and 32 degrees.
