Mares' tails

Wispy, detached streaks of cirrus clouds that resemble a horse's tail. These clouds are composed of ice crystals and form at high altitudes, often indicating the presence of strong winds aloft. Their appearance can sometimes precede a change in weather, such as the approach of a warm front.
