Maximum-wind level
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007148
The atmospheric height at which wind speeds reach their highest value within a given vertical profile. This level often coincides with the tropopause or occurs within the upper troposphere, especially in the vicinity of jet streams. Pilots use this information to select flight altitudes that minimize headwind or maximize tailwind components.
