Mesospheric jet
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007221
A region of strong zonal winds found in the mesosphere, typically at altitudes between 50 and 85 kilometers. These jets are driven by the absorption of solar radiation and the breaking of atmospheric waves, exhibiting seasonal reversals in direction. The polar night jet, a prominent example, forms in the winter hemisphere and can reach speeds exceeding 100 meters per second.
