Mesosphere-stratosphere-troposphere radar

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010614

A type of Doppler radar system designed to measure wind velocities and turbulence in the troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere. It operates by transmitting radio waves vertically and obliquely into the atmosphere and detecting the weak echoes scattered back by refractive index irregularities. These radars provide continuous profiles of wind speed and direction, offering insights into atmospheric dynamics and wave propagation across different atmospheric layers.
