Mesosphere
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001694
The layer of the Earth's atmosphere situated above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere, extending from approximately 50 to 85 kilometers in altitude. Within this layer, temperature generally decreases with increasing height, reaching a minimum at the mesopause. Most meteors burn up upon entering this region.
The atmospheric shell between about 20 km and about 70 to 80 km, extending from the top of the stratosphere (the stratopause) to the upper temperature minimum that defines the mesopause (the base of the thermosphere).
