Multiple drift correction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007453
A technique applied to data from radiosondes or dropsondes to account for the horizontal displacement of the instrument as it ascends or descends through the atmosphere. The correction recalculates the position of each measurement point, creating a more accurate vertical profile of atmospheric conditions above a fixed ground location. This process is necessary because the instrument is carried by the wind during its flight.
