Multiple incursion theory
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007454
A hypothesis explaining the formation of a complex tropical cyclone through the interaction and eventual merger of several pre-existing, smaller-scale cyclonic vortices. According to this theory, a larger, more intense storm can develop when multiple mesoscale convective vortices, which form within a broader area of disturbed weather, are drawn together and consolidate into a single circulation. This process contrasts with theories where a single, isolated disturbance intensifies on its own.
