Angularity correction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003517
A correction applied to measurements from a cup anemometer to account for errors that arise when the wind is not perfectly horizontal. The instrument's response is not purely cosine-dependent, meaning it can over-speed in turbulent or vertically moving air because the cups react to the total wind speed, not just the horizontal component. This correction factor, determined through wind tunnel calibration, adjusts the raw output to provide a more accurate horizontal wind speed measurement.
