Gauging section
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005885
A specific cross-section of a river or stream where hydrometric measurements are regularly taken to monitor water flow. This location is chosen for its stable channel geometry and uniform flow characteristics, which provide consistent and reliable data. A gauging station at this section contains instruments to measure water level (stage), from which discharge is calculated using a pre-established stage-discharge rating curve.
