Stage-discharge relation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009181
The empirical relationship between the water level (stage) and the volume of water flowing per unit time (discharge) at a specific cross-section of a river or stream. This relationship is developed by making simultaneous measurements of stage and discharge over a range of flow conditions. The resulting stage-discharge rating curve is a graphical plot or equation used to estimate discharge from continuous stage measurements, which are easier to obtain.
