Nansen bottle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007469
A device used in oceanography to collect water samples from specific depths and to measure water temperature at those depths. It consists of a metal cylinder with valves at both ends that are triggered to close when a messenger weight slides down the hydrographic wire. This instrument was widely used before the advent of electronic sensors like CTDs (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth profilers).
