Neutron-scattering method
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007526
A technique used to measure soil moisture content by detecting the scattering and moderation of fast neutrons emitted from a radioactive source. Hydrogen atoms in water molecules are particularly effective at slowing down these neutrons, allowing for an estimation of water volume. This method provides in-situ measurements of soil water content.
