Orographic occlusion

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007738

A meteorological process where a cold front or cold air mass is forced to ascend over a mountain barrier, leading to a localized intensification of weather phenomena. As the cold air is lifted, it can override warmer air, creating conditions similar to an occluded front but driven by topography. This can result in enhanced precipitation or cloudiness on the windward slopes.
