Partially penetrating well

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007809

A well that is screened or open to only a fraction of the total thickness of an aquifer, as opposed to penetrating its entire saturated depth. This configuration induces a three-dimensional, spherical or hemispherical flow of groundwater toward the well screen, which is more complex than the two-dimensional radial flow associated with a fully penetrating well. The partial penetration affects the well's drawdown and yield, requiring specific analytical methods for hydrogeological assessments related to groundwater-atmosphere interactions.
