Persistence forecast
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002024
A weather prediction method that assumes future weather conditions will be the same as the present or recent past. For example, if it is raining now, a persistence forecast would predict rain for the next few hours or days. This type of forecast is most accurate for short time scales and in areas with stable weather patterns.
A forecast that the current weather condition will persist and that future weather will be the same as the present (e.g., if it is raining today, a forecast predicting rain tonight).
