Persistence

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002023

  1. The tendency for atmospheric conditions or weather patterns to remain unchanged over a period of time. This concept is often used as a baseline for forecasting, assuming that future weather will be similar to current or recent weather. Persistence is more pronounced in stable atmospheric conditions or during certain seasons.

  2. Continuation of existing conditions. When a physical parameter
varies slowly, the best prediction is often persistence
