A measure of the accuracy of a forecast relative to a reference forecast, such as a climatological average or persistence forecast. It quantifies the improvement achieved by a particular forecasting method over a simpler, baseline approach. Skill scores are often used to evaluate and compare the performance of different numerical weather prediction models.
