Potential refractivity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008086
A measure of the refractivity of an air parcel if it were adiabatically brought to a standard reference pressure, usually 1000 hectopascals. This concept is useful for understanding how radio waves bend in the atmosphere, as it removes the direct influence of varying atmospheric pressure. It is closely related to potential refractive index and is expressed in N-units.
