Preactivation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008101
The process by which ice nuclei become active at temperatures warmer than their typical activation temperature, often due to prior exposure to specific atmospheric conditions or a history of freezing and thawing. This phenomenon can influence the formation of ice crystals in clouds and subsequently affect precipitation processes. It is a factor in understanding the microphysics of mixed-phase clouds.
