Precipitation shield

A region of cloud cover associated with a weather system that is actively producing precipitation, as observed by radar or satellite. This area often appears as a broad, bright band on radar imagery, indicating falling rain or snow. It is a characteristic feature of extratropical cyclones and frontal systems.
