Prefrontal squall line

A narrow band of thunderstorms that forms ahead of a cold front, often several hundred kilometers in advance. These lines develop in the warm, moist air mass due to convergence and lifting mechanisms associated with the approaching front. They are characterized by strong winds, heavy precipitation, and sometimes hail or tornadoes.
