Rafted ice
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008358
A form of sea ice deformation where one floe overrides another, creating a double layer of ice. This process occurs when two ice floes converge under pressure, with one sliding over the top of the other rather than breaking or ridging. Rafted ice is common in newly formed ice and can increase the local ice thickness to several meters.
