Rain washout
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008372
The process by which precipitation, particularly rain, removes aerosols, gases, and particulate matter from the atmosphere. As raindrops fall, they scavenge pollutants through impaction and absorption, cleansing the air. This mechanism contributes significantly to atmospheric deposition and can affect air quality downwind of pollution sources.
