Rain-out

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008386

The process by which atmospheric aerosols and gases are incorporated into cloud droplets or ice crystals during cloud formation and subsequently removed from the atmosphere as precipitation. This is an in-cloud scavenging mechanism, distinct from washout where particles are removed by falling precipitation below the cloud. Both processes contribute to atmospheric cleansing.
