Dry deposition

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005157

The process by which airborne particulate matter and gases are transferred from the atmosphere to surfaces without the aid of precipitation. This occurs through direct contact, gravitational settling, impaction, and absorption onto vegetation, soil, or water bodies. Dry deposition contributes to air pollution and can impact ecosystems by depositing pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
