Ramsonde
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010712
A ruggedized instrument package, similar to a dropsonde, designed to be released from an aircraft into severe weather systems like hurricanes. It descends without a parachute, using its aerodynamic shape to maintain stability while measuring temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind data. The name derives from its ability to withstand the high wind speeds and turbulence encountered as it falls through the storm.
