Describing an event or process where the outcome is not predictable with certainty, and each possible outcome has a definite probability of occurrence. In atmospheric science, this concept applies to phenomena that exhibit variability without a discernible pattern. For example, the precise timing and location of individual lightning strikes are considered random events.
