Probability distribution

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008157

A mathematical function that describes the likelihood of different possible outcomes in an experiment or observation. It assigns a probability to each possible value of a random variable, indicating how these values are distributed. In meteorology, probability distributions are used to model the occurrence of weather events like rainfall amounts or temperature extremes, often represented by functions such as the normal or gamma distribution.
