Right-hand rotation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008574

A convention used to describe the direction of rotation, where if the thumb of the right hand points in the direction of the axis of rotation, the fingers curl in the direction of the rotation. In meteorology, this concept is applied to vector quantities, such as the Coriolis force, which acts to the right of the motion in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also used in defining coordinate systems for atmospheric models.
