Rinehart projection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008579
A method for displaying weather radar data that corrects for Earth's curvature and atmospheric refraction of the radar beam. It transforms data collected in a polar coordinate system (range, azimuth, elevation) into a constant-altitude Cartesian grid, providing a more accurate horizontal depiction of precipitation. This projection is used to create composite radar images from multiple sites and to compare radar echoes with other geospatial data sets.
