Map projection

A systematic method for representing the curved surface of the Earth or a celestial body onto a flat plane. This transformation inevitably introduces distortions in area, shape, distance, or direction. Common map projections used in meteorology include Mercator, Lambert Conformal Conic, and Polar Stereographic, each suited for different geographical regions or analytical purposes.
