Equal-area map
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005407
A map projection that accurately represents the relative sizes of geographical areas, meaning that any two regions on the map have the same proportional area as their corresponding regions on the Earth's surface. While preserving area, these projections often distort shapes, angles, and distances, especially away from the central meridian or standard parallels. The Albers Equal-Area Conic projection is a common example used for thematic mapping.
