Ripple

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008582

A small, undulating wave on the surface of a fluid, such as water or sand, caused by wind or other disturbances. These features are characterized by their short wavelength and low amplitude. On water, ripples form when wind speeds are low, typically less than a few meters per second, preceding the formation of larger waves.
