Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008603

Horizontal, elongated circulations in the atmosphere, often observed in the planetary boundary layer, that are aligned with the mean wind shear. These coherent structures can organize clouds into parallel bands, such as cloud streets, or influence the distribution of moisture and heat. They are a form of atmospheric convection driven by buoyancy and shear.
