Rotor

A turbulent, horizontal roll cloud that forms on the lee side of a mountain range, often beneath a mountain wave crest. It is characterized by violent turbulence and strong vertical motions, posing a hazard to aircraft. These clouds are stationary relative to the ground but consist of rapidly circulating air.
