Second-trip echo

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008750

A radar echo that originates from a target located beyond the maximum unambiguous range of the radar, but is detected during a subsequent pulse repetition interval. The radar incorrectly interprets the echo's arrival time, causing it to appear at a closer, incorrect range on the display. This phenomenon can be mitigated by varying the pulse repetition frequency.
