Second-order station

A meteorological station where observations are taken by a trained but unpaid volunteer observer at least once daily. These stations supplement the data from first-order stations, which are staffed by professional, paid observers. Data from a second-order station includes temperature, precipitation, and other parameters, but the range of observed elements is less extensive than at a principal climatological station.
