Second-order climatological station

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008747

A weather observation site that records data at least once daily for a more limited set of atmospheric variables than a principal station. These stations measure parameters such as daily maximum and minimum temperature and 24-hour precipitation totals. The instrumentation is often maintained by volunteer observers, and the data supplement the denser network of principal climatological stations.
