Velocity aliasing

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009964

An ambiguity in Doppler radar measurements where the true radial velocity of a target exceeds the maximum unambiguous velocity that the radar can detect. This results in the measured velocity being folded back into the unambiguous range, appearing as a different, incorrect velocity. Aliasing can be mitigated by adjusting the radar's pulse repetition frequency or using velocity dealiasing algorithms.
