Seepage face

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008770

A saturated zone on a slope, such as a riverbank or hillside, where groundwater emerges and flows out onto the surface. This outflow occurs when the water table intersects the ground surface, creating an area of slow water discharge without forming a distinct spring. The rate of seepage is governed by the hydraulic conductivity of the soil or rock and the local hydraulic gradient.
