Selatan

A strong, dry southerly or southeasterly wind that occurs in the Indonesian archipelago, particularly affecting the island of Java. This local wind is most prevalent during the dry season, which corresponds to the winter monsoon in the Southern Hemisphere. The selatan is analogous to other foehn-type winds, where air descends from mountains, warming and drying adiabatically as it moves to lower elevations.
