Serac

A large, unstable block or tower of glacial ice, often found in icefalls or at the edge of ice cliffs where the glacier flows over steep terrain. These features form when crevasses intersect, isolating sections of ice. Seracs are hazardous to mountaineers due to their unpredictable collapse.
