Moutonnée
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007432
A rock formation, also known as a roche moutonnée, that has been sculpted by the passage of a glacier. It has a distinctively asymmetric shape, with a smooth, gently sloped, and abraded side facing the direction from which the ice advanced. The opposite, down-ice side is steep, rough, and jagged due to glacial plucking and quarrying, making these features reliable indicators of past ice flow direction.
