Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009001

An extensive area of perennial snow and ice that covers a relatively flat or gently sloping surface, persisting throughout the year. Unlike a glacier, a snowfield does not exhibit evidence of internal flow or movement. These features are common in high-altitude mountain ranges and polar regions, acting as reservoirs for meltwater.
