Temperate glacier

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009526

A type of glacier where the ice throughout its mass is at or near the pressure melting point. This condition allows for the presence of liquid water within the glacier, which facilitates internal deformation and basal sliding. Such glaciers are common in mid-latitude mountain ranges and coastal regions, exhibiting relatively high rates of movement compared to polar glaciers.
